I'm a Mentor for the 2020 Write Mentor Program!

Updated: Dec 11, 2021

I'm so happy to have been chosen as a Mentor for the 2020 #WriteMentor program. I really wanted to give back to this amazing community.

I was a #WriteMentor mentee in 2018 and I learned so much from the whole experience. Being chosen by Sarah Carlson taught me the hard work it takes to get a manuscript polished enough to send out to agents. Even though I came close with my first YA project, it was my second manuscript that landed me a literary agent.

Now a little about me ...

I started writing for children in 2012 and now I serve as the Asst. Regional Advisor of SCBWI-NM. I'm a member of a local writing group in my city and attend monthly peer critique meetings and have more than eight years experience giving other writers feedback.

If you were wondering ...

As an African-American/Canadian Muslim woman of color, I would love to see all the YA contemporary manuscripts. PRETTY PLEASE !!! The more diverse, the better. Projects that are ownvoices are especially wanted.

I'd love to work with a mentee who is eager to collaborate with me to make their submission package shine. I'm so happy to have been chosen as a Mentor for the 2020 #WriteMentor program. I really wanted to give back to this amazing community.
